Authorities in San Jose have announced the arrest of a 22-year-old man in connection with an alleged human trafficking scheme. Jolaun Canton, a resident of San Jose, was taken into custody on April 20 following a traffic stop where he attempted to flee from police. During the arrest, Canton was found in possession of a ghost gun, an unregistered firearm.
The investigation into Canton began after a teenage girl from East Palo Alto was reported missing on February 25. The SJPD Human Trafficking Task Force and East Palo Alto Police Department conducted a joint investigation, which led them to a residence in San Jose. On March 25, the authorities rescued the girl from a car trunk on the property, where she had been held against her will and forced to engage in commercial sex acts in exchange for money by Canton.
Canton is currently being held without bail at the Elmwood men’s jail in Milpitas. He is facing charges including child sex trafficking, evading police, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
