Accident – Death – Obituary News : A disturbing incident unfolded in Mirema area, Nairobi, as a motorist, Ian Njoroge, was caught on camera assaulting a traffic officer, identified as Patrick Ogenda. The video of Njoroge punching and kicking Ogenda went viral, sparking outrage among netizens who condemned his actions as completely unacceptable.

Onlookers at the scene quickly intervened to rescue Officer Ogenda and promptly transported him to Mama Lucy Hospital for medical attention. The incident was reported to the Kasarani police station, leading to a manhunt for Njoroge, who was subsequently arrested at his residence in Kayole.

The arrest of Njoroge was carried out by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following the public outcry over the assault. The video footage captured Njoroge’s violent attack on the traffic officer, drawing widespread condemnation from the public.

According to a report by Citizen Digital, Officer Ogenda had arrested Njoroge for violating traffic regulations, leading to the altercation. Ogenda instructed Njoroge to drive to the Kasarani Police Station, but Njoroge brandished a sword from under his seat, forcing the officer to jump out of the vehicle.

Njoroge pursued Officer Ogenda, assaulting him until he fell into a trench along Kamiti Road. Members of the public came to the officer’s aid, taking him to Crestview Mother and Child Wellness Centre in Kasarani before he was transferred to Mama Lucy Hospital for further treatment.

In addition to Njoroge, another suspect, Peter Kiragu, was also apprehended as part of the ongoing investigation. The incident highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty and the importance of upholding respect for authority.

This incident follows a similar case where a middle-aged man was charged with assaulting a police officer at the Drive Inn police station in Roysambu sub-county, Nairobi. The accused, Eric Ochieng, reportedly caused a disturbance at the station, leading to charges being filed against him.

The swift arrest of Njoroge serves as a reminder that acts of violence against law enforcement officers will not be tolerated. The authorities are committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of all citizens and public servants..
