LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — A tragic discovery was made in Cordova town on Monday morning, June 3, 2024, when the lifeless body of a 40-year-old man was found in Purok Paglaum, Barangay Ibabao. The victim was identified as George Manatad Serafin, a resident of Lower Sun-ok, Brgy. Ibabao.

According to reports from the Cordova Police Station, authorities were alerted by a concerned citizen who reported the presence of a deceased individual in the area. Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officials observed a gunshot wound on the victim’s head, specifically located on his right face below his right eye.

Immediate steps were taken to secure the crime scene, with the assistance of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) tasked to process the area for evidence. During their examination, authorities recovered an empty shell and a green lighter.

The victim’s relatives arrived at the scene and positively identified the deceased individual, shedding light on the victim’s recent movements. It was revealed that the victim had recently returned from his hometown in Mindanao, against the advice of his family who had warned him against returning to Cebu due to alleged involvement in illegal activities.

Family members expressed concerns over the victim’s suspected ties to the illegal drug trade, prompting them to advise him to stay in Mindanao. The victim was last seen by his son at 3:00 a.m. on the day of the incident, further complicating the investigation.

Authorities have identified a person of interest in connection to the crime, and have confiscated the victim’s cellular phone for additional scrutiny.
