George Manatad : “Cordova Shooting: Man Killed, Drugs Suspected”

A tragic incident occurred in Cordova, Cebu, as a 40-year-old man, identified as George Manatad, was shot and fatally wounded by an unknown assailant. The incident took place in Purok Paglaum, Barangay Ibabao, Cordova, early in the morning on Monday, June 3, 2024.

According to reports, Manatad was rushed to a hospital in Lapu-Lapu City but succumbed to his injuries on the way. His children revealed that they had last seen their father around 3 a.m. on the day of the incident.

It was mentioned that Manatad had recently arrived in Cordova from Mindanao and was cautioned by his relatives against returning to Cebu due to his alleged involvement in illegal drug activities. This has prompted the authorities to investigate the possibility of a drug-related motive behind the attack.

Furthermore, it was reported that Manatad had lost his cellular phone, which could potentially be a crucial piece of evidence in the investigation. A bullet from an unidentified firearm was recovered from the crime scene and has been sent for forensic analysis by the Philippine National Police Forensic Unit.

The Cordova Police Station has identified a person of interest in connection with the case and plans to summon them for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
