(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The El Paso County Coroner has officially identified the victim of a tragic shooting incident that occurred south of Motor City on Thursday, May 23. The incident resulted in road closures in the area for several hours.
Following the investigation conducted by the Colorado Springs Police Department, the victim has been named as 45-year-old Darryl Edward Scurry Jr.
Authorities were alerted to the shooting incident shortly after 6 a.m. in the vicinity of South Nevada Avenue near the southbound I-25 off-ramp. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a man who had sustained at least one gunshot wound. The victim was promptly transported to the hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead.
On Friday, May 24, the El Paso County Coroner formally identified the deceased individual as Darryl Edward Scurry Jr. While the official cause and manner of death will be determined by the coroner’s office, Scurry’s passing is being treated as a homicide.
This unfortunate incident marks the 20th homicide in Colorado Springs for the year 2024. By comparison, at the same point in 2023, there had been 11 reported homicides in the city.
As of Monday, June 3, the Colorado Springs Police Department has not apprehended any suspects in connection with this case. The investigation remains active and ongoing, with CSPD urging individuals with information or potential witnesses to come forward and assist in the inquiry.
