Man arrested for altercation at Bronx golf course
An afternoon golf outing turned violent at the Pelham Bay & Split Rock Golf Courses in the Bronx, resulting in one man being hospitalized and another facing assault charges. A FOX 5 NY employee witnessed the incident and captured footage of the aftermath. FOX 5 NY’s Stephanie Bertini provides a detailed account of the events.
BRONX – A man has been taken into custody following a physical altercation at a golf course in the Bronx on Saturday, according to authorities.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. at the Pelham Bay & Split Rock Golf Courses when a 29-year-old individual, identified as Charles Costello, reportedly struck a 49-year-old man.
An employee of FOX 5 NY who was present during the altercation described the scene, mentioning that CPR was administered to the injured man while Costello expressed remorse for his actions.
“I simply reacted by retaliating. I had no intention of causing harm,” one of the individuals involved in the altercation stated.
The 49-year-old victim sustained injuries and was subsequently transported by emergency medical services to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi, where he is reported to be in stable condition, as per law enforcement officials.
“Often, individuals fail to adhere to proper etiquette,” remarked golfer Larry Gonzalez. While Gonzalez frequents the golf course on a weekly basis, he was not present during the recent incident. He shared that altercations are not uncommon at the location.
“Had I been more confrontational, I could have found myself in multiple altercations on this golf course over the past few years,” Gonzalez reflected.
Costello has been formally charged with assault in connection to the altercation.
The circumstances leading up to the confrontation remain unclear, including whether the individuals involved had any prior acquaintance.
