Patna: A shocking incident occurred in Nalanda district on Monday as unidentified miscreants brutally murdered a 62-year-old JD(U) worker, Anil Mahto. The gruesome attack took place just a day before the counting of votes on June 4. According to the police, the assailants used sharp-edged weapons such as swords and spears to carry out the heinous crime.
Anil Mahto, the son of the late Brahmadev Prasad, hailed from Maua village in the Parwalpur police station area of Nalanda district. He had served as the JD(U) polling agent during the recent elections held on June 1, which adds a chilling dimension to the motive behind the murder.
The tragic incident unfolded during Anil’s routine morning walk at around 4.30 am when the miscreants ambushed him, launching a vicious attack. Despite the swift response of his family members who rushed him to the sadar hospital, Anil succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a grieving community.
The authorities wasted no time in launching a thorough investigation into the matter. Hilsa SDPO-1 and SDPO-2, along with the circle inspector, visited the crime scene accompanied by forensic and dog squad teams to gather crucial evidence. The sitting JD(U) MP, Kaushalendra Kumar, also paid his respects to the victim’s family at the hospital.
Speaking on the possible motive behind the brutal murder, Hilsa SDPO-2, Gopal Krishna, revealed, “Anil’s wife has lodged a complaint with the police officials stating that the attack stemmed from longstanding enmity that originated when Anil assumed the role of a polling agent.”
This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the need for swift justice and enhanced security measures to prevent such senseless acts of violence in the future.
