The Saskatchewan RCMP have sadly confirmed that a serious collision that occurred near Swift Current has resulted in a tragic loss of life. In an update released on Monday afternoon, the RCMP announced that one person had died as a result of a two-vehicle collision in the area on Sunday.
The incident took place on June 2 at approximately 3:50 p.m. The Swift Current RCMP received a report of a crash involving a car and a semi-truck at the intersection of Highway 1 and Range Road 625.
Upon receiving the report, police officers and local paramedics swiftly responded to the scene. Tragically, the driver and sole occupant of the car was declared deceased at the scene. The individual has been identified as a 34-year-old man from Swift Current, and his family has been notified of the heartbreaking news.
The driver of the semi-truck involved in the collision was assessed by EMS at the scene for any injuries.
The RCMP is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision with the assistance of a crash reconstructionist. The details of the incident are being meticulously reviewed to determine the cause of the tragic event.
Following the collision, the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 were temporarily closed to allow for the investigation and clean-up efforts. However, traffic flow returned to normal several hours after the incident, with police presence ensuring the safety of all road users.
