After a lengthy trial in Berkshire Superior Court, Tyler Sumner has been convicted of Murder in the First Degree and Possession of Ammunition without a Firearm Identification Card by a jury. The case, which dates back to the early morning hours of Sunday, August 25, 2019, involved the tragic death of 37-year-old Stephanie Olivieri.

The incident unfolded when Pittsfield Police responded to a 911 call reporting suspicious activity on South John Street. Upon arrival, officers heard gunshots and discovered Olivieri in her car with fatal injuries. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at Berkshire Medical Center. The Chief Medical Examiner later confirmed that the cause of her death was a homicide resulting from a gunshot wound to the head.

During the trial, witnesses testified that Sumner was targeting someone else in the area, indicating that Olivieri was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire. The prosecution presented a range of evidence, including items from the crime scene, video surveillance footage, witness statements, and communication records.

District Attorney Shugrue expressed satisfaction with the guilty verdict, acknowledging the challenges faced in proving the case against Sumner.
