Mumbai: Navi Mumbai police have apprehended two individuals suspected of being involved in a dacoity case after a woman reported being swindled of around ₹28 lakh in a gold scam.

The 36-year-old resident of Nerul lodged a complaint alleging that she was approached by one of the arrested individuals who offered to procure half a kilogram of gold for her at a discounted price of ₹27.81 lakh, supposedly below the market rate.

The complainant claimed that she was accompanied by the man to Sanpada station in a car on May 18 for the transaction. However, upon reaching the destination, a group of individuals purportedly intimidated her and forcefully snatched her bag containing the money.

The suspects, identified as Rakesh Shivaji Shingte (39) and Roopesh Subash Sapkale (42) from Thane, allegedly absconded from the scene with another accomplice, prompting a police inquiry.

Authorities have revealed that endeavours are ongoing to detain the remaining individuals implicated in the incident.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, police in Ghaziabad disclosed the apprehension of a 32-year-old woman accused of masterminding the theft of 40 tolas of gold and silver jewellery from her in-laws’ residence. The woman, known as Deepika Tyagi, purportedly colluded with her parents, Yogendra Tyagi (60) and Sunita Tyagi (56), to orchestrate a dacoity scenario.

Furthermore, Akbar Ali (63), who purportedly aided the accused in executing the theft and received ₹20,000 in return, has also been detained.

The incident transpired in Niwari, where the suspects were taken into custody following an investigation by law enforcement personnel.
