VIZIANAGARAM: A home guard in Srikakulam district police has been accused of raping a 40-year-old widow in the presence of her male friend at a secluded location in Vizianagaram district. The shocking incident, which occurred on May 25, came to light on Friday night when the victim bravely decided to file a complaint with the Disha police station in the area. According to reports by Nalla Babu, the victim had accompanied her friend to a village when the accused, identified as Raju Kumar (45), approached them in a police vehicle.

The home guard reportedly threatened the duo and insisted that they accompany him to the police station for counselling. He also demanded and accepted a bribe from the pair before proceeding to assault the victim’s friend and tie him up. Subsequently, Raju proceeded to rape the woman in front of her friend. Following the heinous act, the home guard and his accomplice threatened both the victim and her friend.

P Narayana Rao, sub-inspector of Disha police station, revealed that Raju was the driver of a DSP rank officer in Srikakulam district police. “On May 25, he had dropped the DSP at the police station in Vizag. On his way back to Srikakulam, he picked up his friend. They spotted the victim with her friend at an isolated spot and committed the crime,” Rao explained. “We have apprehended the accused individuals and presented them before the court, where they have been remanded,” he added.
