Accident – Death – Obituary News :

In a frightening incident in south Mumbai\’s Byculla area, a 57-year-old man was injured while 25 to 30 individuals were rescued after a fire engulfed a 62-storey residential building late Saturday night. The blaze originated in a flat on the 10th floor of the Monte South building\’s A wing in the Khatao Mill Compound at 11.42 pm, with smoke quickly spreading throughout the entire floor.

As the fire raged, several people found themselves stranded on the upper levels of the building, prompting a swift response from emergency services. A total of 25 to 30 individuals were successfully rescued through the building’s staircase, with one man, identified as Pandurang Shinde, sustaining injuries during the ordeal.

The fire was classified as a “level-2” blaze, primarily affecting the electric wiring and installations, wooden furniture, household articles, wardrobe, mattresses, beds, sofas, curtains, electronic appliances, false ceilings, doors, windows, and modular kitchen of the 10th floor flat. Additionally, the blaze damaged curtains, window glass, and other items in an apartment on the 11th floor.

Emergency responders quickly mobilised eight water tankers and six fire engines to the scene, utilising four hose lines and nine motor pumps to combat the flames. The intense firefighting efforts eventually led to the extinguishing of the blaze at 2.45 am, bringing a sense of relief to residents and onlookers.

During the firefighting operation, an explosion occurred due to a refrigerator compressor in the kitchen of the 10th floor flat, adding further challenges to the already complex situation. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, although initial reports suggest a possible short-circuit in one of the flats on the 10th floor as a potential trigger.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident to determine the precise cause of the fire and assess any further damages or safety concerns within the residential building. The swift response and coordinated efforts of the fire department were instrumental in preventing a more catastrophic outcome, highlighting the importance of preparedness and vigilance in such emergency situations.
