On the night of June 1, 2024, a tragic accident took place in Finksburg, Maryland, claiming the life of a 41-year-old man identified as Geoffrey Brittingham from Hampstead, Carroll County. Maryland State Police are currently investigating the incident that occurred on Emory Road at Cedarhurst Road.

According to authorities, Brittingham was driving a 2022 Ford Explorer northbound on Emory Road when he failed to stop for a closed construction zone near the North Branch Patapsco River bridge replacement project. This resulted in a collision with a 2014 Volvo Excavator and a Mack Dump Truck. Sadly, Brittingham was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

Tragically, Brittingham’s 7-year-old son was in the rear of the Explorer at the time of the crash. The young boy suffered injuries and was immediately transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for medical treatment. The construction zone where the accident occurred was not active at the time, and no other injuries were reported. As a result of the incident, the MD 91 bridge will remain closed for an extended period, with a detour route in place using MD 30 and MD 140 for motorists.
