Accident – Death – Obituary News : Maryland State Police are currently conducting an investigation into a tragic single-vehicle crash that resulted in the untimely death of a 41-year-old man from Carroll County. The incident took place on May 31st and claimed the life of Geoffrey Brittingham, a resident of Hampstead. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced Brittingham deceased.

The fatal crash occurred on Emory Road near the Cedarhurst Road intersection, where Brittingham was driving a 2022 Ford Explorer northbound. According to investigators, Brittingham failed to stop for a closed construction zone at the North Branch Patapsco River bridge replacement project. As a result, his vehicle collided with the rear of a Volvo excavator and a Mack dump truck.

Tragically, Brittingham’s 7-year-old son was in the rear of the Explorer at the time of the crash. The young boy was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for medical treatment. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

It is important to note that the construction zone where the accident occurred was inactive at the time. Authorities have reminded motorists that the MD 91 bridge will be closed for an extended period, with a detour route utilising MD 30 and MD 140.

The investigation into this fatal crash is being led by the Maryland State Police Crash Team. They are diligently working to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic event.
