Horrified bus driver finds dumped fetus on a seat during his bus route

The discovery was made on a Baltimore bus

A bus driver’s shift took a dark turn when he discovered a fetus had been left on one of the seats.

The driver was heading south along Baltimore‘s Green Route on June 1 when he made the startling discovery.

The fetus was found on the Maryland Transit Administration bus at around 12:39 pm when it reached the 2500 block of Kirk Avenue, located in East Baltimore.

He called the Baltimore Police Department who opened up an investigation.

Videos showing the bus being searched were shared to social media, where users branded the situation as ‘sad’ and ‘awful’.

A spokesperson for the police force told The US Mirror: “I can confirm that on June 1, 2024, at approximately 12:39 p.m. in the 2500 block of Kirk Avenue, an MTA bus driver advised that he discovered a fetus on a seat on the bus.

“MTA police and BPD officers responded. As this is an open and active investigation, no further information is available at this time.”

Not much is known about the fetus and no suspects have been identified as of yet.

UNILAD has reached out to Baltimore Police Department and the Maryland Transit Administration for comment.

This incident comes just days after a placenta and umbilical cord were found in some trees in Cooks River at Earlwood in southwest Sydney.

After this discovery was made by a couple walking their dogs, many urged the mother to seek help from government welfare programs.

Police have initiated a search for the mother and baby.

As of yet, nobody has been found.

Tests on the organs revealed them to be human and confirmed the baby is male, police reported.

While finding a fetus is uncommon, it’s sadly not unheard of for newborn babies to be abandoned.

In 2021, 31 babies in the US were abandoned, with 22 of them found dead in dumpsters or backpacks.

There has been a rise in the number of Safe Havens established for parents to safely leave unwanted babies.

These facilities can be found in hospitals, fire stations, churches, adoption agencies, and emergency service buildings.

According to the National Safe Haven Alliance, since 1999, 4,524 babies have been left with Safe Havens.

During this period, 1,610 babies were illegally abandoned, with 608 found alive and 915 found deceased.
