Warwick, R.I. – Warwick police are currently conducting an investigation into a serious accident involving a vehicle and a motorcycle that occurred late Saturday night on West Shore Road.
Authorities were alerted to the incident just before 10 p.m., with initial reports indicating a collision between an SUV and a motorcycle. Witnesses at the scene reported that the motorcyclist had been run over by the SUV, resulting in significant injuries.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 43-year-old male motorcyclist lying on the roadway with traumatic head injuries. Despite being conscious, the victim was severely bleeding and required immediate medical attention. He was promptly treated by rescue crews and subsequently transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The driver of the SUV had fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. However, thanks to information provided by witnesses, the vehicle and its driver – a 45-year-old female – were located a short distance away. The SUV displayed significant damage consistent with colliding with the motorcycle.
The female driver exhibited signs of impairment and was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. She was taken into custody and transported to the Warwick Police Department for further investigation and potential charges.
At this time, the identity of the suspect and the specific charges against her have not been disclosed. The Warwick Police Traffic Units’ Accident Reconstruction Team has taken over the investigation into the crash.
