The Cyber Crime Branch of Goa Police has taken into custody a 20-year-old individual from Canacona for his involvement in bullying and disseminating unsolicited sexually explicit content to a woman residing in Margao via social media.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim, the Cyber Crime Police Station initiated legal proceedings under Sections 67 and 67-A of the IT Act against the accused, who goes by the username “akshu_jagtap_xx” on Instagram. The victim reported receiving obscene material, including sexually explicit videos, from the perpetrator prior to April 4 this year, leading to distress and intimidation.
The arrested individual, identified as Vinay, hailing from Nanem, Gaodongrem in Canacona, is a student at ITI. Confessing to his actions, the accused is currently in police custody.
Authorities have seized incriminating evidence from the suspect’s phone, including chat logs with the victim and explicit videos. The device will undergo forensic examination to gather further proof.
An ongoing investigation supervised by Dy SP Ashish Shirodkar of the Cyber Crime Police Station in Ribandar has unveiled the accused’s modus operandi. He allegedly created a fake Instagram persona to befriend the complainant, subsequently bombarding her with lewd messages and videos in a bid to solicit sexual favours.
Law enforcement agencies caution the public against interacting with unknown individuals or dubious accounts on social media platforms. It is imperative to verify the authenticity of profiles before engaging in any form of communication or video calls to prevent falling victim to online exploitation.
