Vinay : Accused Apprehended for Cyber Bullying on Instagram

ACCUSED APPREHENDED IN CYBER BULLYING CASE AFTER SHARING SEXUALLY EXPLICIT MATERIAL ON INSTAGRAM

The Cyber Crime Police Station has successfully apprehended an individual involved in a cyber bullying case that revolved around the dissemination of sexually explicit content via Instagram. The complaint, registered under Case No. 24/2024 u/s 67 & 67-A of the IT Act, was filed by a resident of Margao, South Goa, who alleged that before 16th April 2024, an individual using the Instagram handle “akshu_jagtap_xx” had sent explicit material containing sexual acts through the platform, leading to bullying of the victim.

Arrest: The accused, identified as Mr. Vinay, a 20-year-old student residing in Canacona, South Goa, was apprehended following a thorough investigation by a dedicated team led by PSI Sarvesh Sawant, PSI Sherwin Dacosta, PC-8265 Ibrahim Karol, and Hemant Gaonkar, under the supervision of Dy. SP Cyber Crime Ashish, and Rahul Gupta IPS, SP Cyber Crime. After an extensive operation spanning a considerable period, the accused was arrested in Canacona.

Accused Profile: Vinay, son of Gopi Gaonkar, from Nanem, Gaodongrem, Canacona, has admitted to his involvement in the crime. Currently studying at an ITI, he now faces legal repercussions for his actions.

Evidence Recovery: Evidence, including conversations between the victim and the accused, as well as alleged explicit videos, was retrieved from the accused’s phone. The device will undergo forensic analysis to further strengthen the investigation.

Modus Operandi: Investigations revealed that the accused had created a fake Instagram profile under a false identity and initiated contact with the complainant. He then shared objectionable content via the platform in an attempt to manipulate the victim into engaging in sexual activities.

Public Advisory: Authorities issue a stern advisory urging the public to exercise caution when interacting with social media accounts, especially those of questionable authenticity. It is crucial to verify the legitimacy of online profiles before engaging in video calls or any form of communication to reduce the risks associated with cyber crimes.
