Accident – Death – Obituary News :
Three children tragically lost their lives after consuming poisonous mushrooms in Saphai village, located in the West Jaiñtia Hills district. The incident occurred on May 28, when the children fell ill shortly after ingesting the toxic fungi.
Upon falling sick, the children were immediately rushed to the Ialong Civil Hospital in Jowai. However, their condition continued to deteriorate, prompting their transfer to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) the following day.
Regrettably, one of the children was declared brought dead upon arrival at NEIGRIHMS. The deceased have been identified as Riwansaka Suchiang (8), Kitlang Duchiang (12), and Wansalan Suchiang (15).
Medical Updates
According to a report from NEIGRIHMS, the victims were admitted to the Medicine & Paediatric ICUs for urgent medical care. Additionally, a 14-year-old minor girl has also been admitted to the Paediatric ICU and is currently in critical condition.
The hospital bulletin further details that a married couple, both suffering from severe health complications, have been admitted to the Medicine ICU. The wife, approximately 30 years old, is in a critical state and is currently on a ventilator due to Hepatic & Renal failure, requiring ionotropic support.
Conversely, the husband, although also unwell, is in a relatively stable condition compared to his wife. He is receiving treatment for liver and kidney failure, with the support of ionotropic drugs but has not yet required ventilator assistance.
Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the source of the poisonous mushrooms and prevent such tragedies from reoccurring in the future.
