The Gombe State Police Command has successfully rescued a 17-year-old woman, Rabi Abdul, who was kidnapped by a group of herdsmen and taken to Zange forest. The incident, which occurred in Dukku Local Government Area, involved the abduction of Rabi after her husband managed to escape the attackers.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, one of the suspects, Malam Abba of Ardo Wumnu village, was apprehended during the operation. The police, along with local hunters, conducted a joint operation in Zange village on 19th May 2024, following leads on suspected cattle rustlers in the area.
Upon reaching a house in Zange forest, the team discovered Rabi Abdul being held captive by Malam Abba. The victim, who hails from Akkoyel village in Akko LGA, was immediately rescued and taken to General Hospital Dukku for medical treatment. She has since been discharged after receiving necessary care.
Swift Action and Justice
The Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of such crimes are brought to justice. Malam Abba, who confessed to his involvement in the kidnapping, will soon face prosecution in court. Efforts are also underway to apprehend the four remaining suspects who are currently at large.
The Police Public Relations Officer warned against such criminal activities, stating that those responsible will not escape the long arm of the law. The Gombe State Police Command is working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all residents in the state.
