The police in Dehradun have successfully solved a recent case of theft where jewellery worth Rs 8 lakhs was stolen from a house in the capital of Uttarakhand. The suspects, a maid and her husband, have been arrested in connection with the crime, according to an official statement released on Saturday.

Theft at MDDA Colony

The burglary took place on May 29 at the residence of Pallav Sharma in MDDA Colony. Sharma reported to the police that unknown burglars had broken into his house and stolen gold and silver jewellery valued at approximately Rs 8 lakhs. Following the complaint, the police registered a case against the unidentified perpetrators.

Investigation and Arrest

During the investigation, the maid initially denied any involvement in the theft when questioned by the police. However, CCTV footage from the house captured a burglar wearing a white T-shirt committing the crime in just six minutes. The thief had covered his face, making identification difficult for the authorities.

Further scrutiny of the maid’s mobile phone revealed a suspicious Whatsapp call to her husband just before the incident. Additionally, a photograph of the maid’s husband wearing the same T-shirt as the thief in the CCTV footage led to his identification as the main suspect.

Upon interrogation, the maid confessed to her role in the theft and disclosed the whereabouts of her husband, who was working in Delhi at the time. A police team apprehended the husband, Kuldeep, and recovered the stolen jewellery from his possession.

Court Proceedings

Both suspects were presented in court by the police and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. The successful resolution of the case highlights the diligent efforts of law enforcement in apprehending the perpetrators and recovering the stolen property.
