Kaieteur News – A bandit sustained gunshot wounds during a failed robbery attempt at the Good Luck Chinese Supermarket in C-Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown. The incident occurred on Thursday around 16:50 hrs.

According to the police report, two armed gunmen entered the supermarket and threatened the female owner, Zheng Siyi, demanding cash and phone cards. Siyi’s distress led to her screaming for help.

A security guard, armed with a 12 gauge shotgun and stationed at the premises, responded to the commotion caused by Siyi. Upon encountering the robbers, the guard fired a shot which hit one of the bandits, prompting them to flee.

As the suspects made their escape, they retaliated by firing shots at the security guard. A video footage reviewed by Kaieteur News captured the intense exchange of gunfire.

The wounded bandit has been identified as Oniel Batson, a 23-year-old unemployed resident of Durban Street, Lodge, Georgetown. Batson sought medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for his injuries, claiming he was shot. Subsequently, he was apprehended by the police and is currently receiving treatment under police supervision for wounds to his middle finger and lower jaw.

Authorities are actively searching for the second suspect involved in the attempted robbery.
