Howard County Police in Maryland have released new information regarding a tragic murder-suicide that took place in Elkridge on Thursday evening. The incident, which shocked the community, involved the suspect, 61-year-old Nayyar Syed, who took his own life after fatally shooting three of his family members and critically injuring another.

Details of the Incident

The authorities were alerted to the scene in the 6900 block of Norwood Ferry following reports of gunshots around 10 p.m. on Thursday. Upon arrival, they discovered a harrowing scene where Syed had taken the lives of his 57-year-old wife Syeda Nayyar, his 25-year-old daughter Syeda Fatima, and his 33-year-old daughter-in-law Alizey Fatima.

His son, 31-year-old Muhammad Hamza, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. Fortunately, the suspect’s 3-month-old granddaughter, who was also present in the home, was unharmed. She underwent a wellness check at the hospital and will be placed in the care of a family member, according to the police.

Investigation and Confession

Howard County police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn revealed that there were no signs of forced entry at the residence, indicating that all individuals involved lived in the house. Before taking his own life, Syed made a chilling 911 call confessing to the shooting of his family members. He was subsequently taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
