The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has identified the third victim of a fatal shooting incident in Minneapolis as 35-year-old Mustafa Ahmed Mohamed. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has confirmed that Mohamed was responsible for the shooting death of Officer Jamal Mitchell.
According to reports, Officer Mitchell tragically lost his life while attempting to aid a man who had been injured in the street. The man turned out to be the suspected shooter, who fatally shot Officer Mitchell upon his arrival at the scene on Blaisdell Avenue.
Officer Jamal Mitchell, a 36-year-old father and engaged individual, had been a member of the department since 2022. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital following the shooting incident.
In addition to Officer Mitchell, two other individuals lost their lives in the shooting. Osman Said Jimale, 32, was identified as the civilian victim found inside the apartment building. Another victim from the same location is currently in critical condition.
Furthermore, a second MPD officer was injured in the exchange of gunfire but has been discharged from the hospital. A Minneapolis firefighter also sustained injuries during the incident, but both individuals have since been released from medical care.
Support for Officer Mitchell’s Family
Following the tragic loss of Officer Jamal Mitchell, various organizations have stepped forward to offer support to his grieving family. The MN 100 Club has approved a $50,000 donation to assist Mitchell’s loved ones, a gesture commonly extended to families of fallen first responders.
In addition, the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis, Law Enforcement Labor Services (LELS), and the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association (MPPOA) are collecting donations for Mitchell’s family through the LELS Benevolent Fund online. At present, no other verified fundraisers for Officer Mitchell’s family are in operation.
