On the 1st of June 2024, during the morning hours at 10:32am, a distress call was received by authorities from a concerned citizen regarding a significant incident that occurred in Yiu On Estate, specifically at Yiu Ping House 2 on Hang Hong Street in Ma On Shan. The incident involved a massive tree, approximately 15 meters in height and half a meter in diameter, which collapsed and struck a woman identified as Ms. Lau, aged 43, while she was on her way to work. It is suspected that the tree toppled due to the strong winds that were prevalent at the time.
Despite sustaining a head injury, the injured woman, Ms. Lau, remained conscious following the incident. Rescue personnel promptly arrived at the scene to provide her with initial medical care before she was swiftly transported to Prince of Wales Hospital for further treatment.
