Burnett County, WI – An unfortunate incident occurred on Thursday at Crooked Lake near Siren, resulting in the untimely death of a woman from Prior Lake, Minnesota. The tragic event was confirmed in a press release from the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office.
Details of the Incident
According to the press release, on May 30, 2024, at 2:56 p.m., Burnett County Dispatch received a distress call regarding a woman in trouble on Crooked Lake near Siren, located on State Highway 35/70. A child who was present at the scene reported that the woman had fallen off her paddleboard and was in need of immediate assistance.
Upon receiving the call, Law Enforcement, Siren Fire Department, and North Ambulance quickly responded to the emergency. A Good Samaritan equipped with a kayak, along with a rescue swimmer from the Siren Fire Department, managed to bring the woman safely to shore.
Once on land, lifesaving measures were initiated promptly. The victim was then transported by North Ambulance to North Air Care at the Burnett County Airport. Tragically, the woman, identified as Jessica M. Lindberg, 35 years old, from Prior Lake, MN, was pronounced deceased at the airport.
Gratitude and Ongoing Investigation
The Burnett County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude towards the Siren Fire Department, North Ambulance, Air Care, Burnett County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for their swift response and assistance during the incident.
As the case remains under investigation, Sheriff Tracy Finch has stated that no further details will be disclosed at this time.
