A 16-year-old male suspect has been taken into custody by Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following a fatal shooting in Houston. The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Jairo Funez-Guifarro.
The Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division Sergeant W. Dunn and Detective C. Vaughn reported that the incident took place when Funez-Guifarro was shot during an altercation with the suspect(s) in another vehicle. He was later transported to a hospital by a private vehicle, where he was pronounced dead.
Initial investigations revealed that Funez-Guifarro was seated in the back of a vehicle when the suspect’s vehicle drove past. Shots were fired from the suspect’s vehicle, resulting in Funez-Guifarro being struck. The shooting occurred at a location in Houston, although no suspect description was available at the time.
Following further investigations, the 16-year-old suspect was identified as the shooter in the case. He was apprehended by the HPD Westside Patrol Division Gang Divisional Unit without resistance on May 29. Due to his age, his juvenile information and booking photos have not been disclosed.
