A tragic incident occurred on Thursday evening on the Gold Star Bridge in Groton, CT, where a woman lost her life after an armored car collided with the disabled vehicle she was in. Connecticut State Police reported that the collision took place just before 6:45 p.m. on southbound Interstate 95.
Details of the Crash
According to the crash report provided by the authorities, a 52-year-old man from Indiana was driving a Ford Edge near the Exit 83 ramp when the vehicle experienced mechanical failure. As a result, the car came to a stop within the southbound lanes of the Gold Star Bridge.
Subsequently, an armored car driven by a 37-year-old woman from New London crashed into the back of the disabled Ford. The impact of the collision resulted in serious injuries to a 76-year-old passenger named Evelyn Diment from Winamac, Indiana. Unfortunately, Diment succumbed to her injuries after being taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.
Both the driver of the Ford and another passenger sustained minor injuries and were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Similarly, the driver of the armored car also received medical attention for minor injuries sustained in the crash.
Investigation Ongoing
