Two individuals have been charged and a third is in custody following a vehicle theft and subsequent police chase in Newark. The incident took place in the early hours of May 18, when a Newark Police Officer observed a Kia driving on the wrong side of Elkton Road.

The stolen vehicle fled from the police but was eventually stopped at a dead end. Several suspects exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The driver, identified as 18-year-old David Ramirez-Chun from Cecilton, Maryland, was apprehended shortly after by Newark officers and officers from the University of Delaware Police Department.

Further investigations revealed another stolen vehicle, a Hyundai, parked on Elkton Road. It was determined that Ramirez-Chun and his accomplices arrived in Newark in the Hyundai and subsequently stole the Kia. Arrest warrants have been issued for the two teenagers from Maryland who were involved in the theft.

Ramirez-Chun is facing multiple charges, including theft of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, disregarding a police officer’s signal, conspiracy, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, and various traffic offenses. Following his appearance before Justice of the Peace Court #11 via video, Ramirez-Chun was held on $3,200 secured bail and is currently detained at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington.
