DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Authorities have confirmed that the tragic death of Davie County resident Cynthia “Cindy” Roberson Gobble, 60, who was reported missing earlier this week, was the result of a murder-suicide.

On Wednesday evening, deputies conducted a welfare check at a residence on Country Lane in Mocksville, following concerns raised by family members who had not been able to reach Gobble since late afternoon. It was revealed that Gobble was in the midst of an ongoing separation and divorce from her husband, Gregory Wayne Gobble, 59, also of Mocksville.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered that Gobble was not at the residence and evidence suggested that she had not left on her own accord. Her personal belongings were found in her vehicle, leading to further concern from family members who noted her unusual lack of communication.

Efforts to locate both Cynthia and Gregory Gobble, including electronic communication and checks at frequented locations, proved unsuccessful. Gregory’s white Ford truck, which he was last seen driving on Wednesday, was also missing.

Subsequently, both individuals were declared missing persons, prompting a law enforcement alert for them and the white Ford truck. An Ashanti Alert was issued for Cynthia, with Gregory identified as the suspect in her disappearance due to evidence of physical endangerment, abduction, or kidnapping.

Tragically, the search for the missing couple came to a grim conclusion when two bodies were discovered just over the Iredell-Davie County line off Sheffield Road in a wooded area. The bodies were identified as Cynthia and Gregory Gobble, both of whom succumbed to gunshot wounds. The weapon was recovered at the scene by the Davie County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities determined that Gregory shot and killed Cynthia before taking his own life, leading to the conclusion of a murder-suicide. No additional suspects or persons of interest are being sought in connection with the case, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

Individuals with information regarding the whereabouts and activities of Cynthia and Gregory Gobble between Wednesday and Thursday are urged to contact the Davie County Sheriff’s Office at (336) 751-6238 or via email at Sheriff@dcsonc.com.
