Accident – Death – Obituary News : Nether Providence — A resident of the township is facing charges after allegedly making a false 911 call in December 2022, claiming to hear the voice of infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in his head and threatening to harm children with a shotgun.

Curtis H. Holmes, also known as Harold Holmes, aged 54 and residing on the 600 block of Vernon Street in the South Media area of the township, was held for court on charges including false reports to law enforcement, false alarm to agencies of public safety, and terroristic threats following a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Elizabeth S. Gallard.

During the hearing, Nether Providence Detective Michael Erickson testified that police received a call from Holmes on the afternoon of December 16, 2022. Assistant District Attorney Domenique Marie Aguirre played a recording of the call, where Holmes provided his personal details and claimed to be hearing Dahmer’s voice in his head, stating he had a loaded shotgun and was targeting children at a nearby playground.

Holmes mentioned that his cousins were present, one with a sword and another with an Uzi, ready to harm individuals. He expressed a history of hearing voices and stated that this incident was the “final call,” requesting assistance and an ambulance be dispatched to his location.

In response to the call, law enforcement set up a perimeter and called in the Central Delco Tactical Response Team for support. Holmes was eventually removed from his residence and taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center for evaluation. No weapons were found in his home.

Defence counsel Christina Ashworth argued that the false report and false alarm charges should be dropped, citing Holmes’ mental health crisis as a contributing factor. However, Aguirre contended that Holmes made several false statements resulting in a significant law enforcement response and the temporary closure of a nearby school.

In a separate incident, Holmes was also held on a retail theft charge from September 2, 2023, but a trespassing charge was dismissed. Media Police Sgt. Eric Gavin recounted an incident at a local Wawa where Holmes allegedly took cigarettes without payment, leading to his arrest.

Despite Ashworth’s arguments for dismissal due to insufficient evidence, Gallard upheld the theft charge and set a formal arraignment for July 12. Holmes is currently out on unsecured bail awaiting further legal proceedings..
