SMITHVILLE, NY (WBNG) — A devastating UTV crash in Smithville, New York has left one person dead, according to a statement released by the New York State Police.
The incident unfolded when troopers were summoned to an address in Smithville following reports of a person injured in a UTV crash. Upon arrival, Smithville EMS was already attending to two individuals involved in the accident.
An initial investigation revealed that the UTV was travelling along Waldon Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle, veering off the road and colliding with a tree before coming to a rest on its side.
The driver, identified as Williams J. Williams, aged 52 and hailing from Greene, NY, tragically did not survive the crash. The passenger, a 24-year-old man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to Wilson Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the fatal UTV crash in Smithville, as they work to establish the sequence of events that led to the tragic outcome.
