Accident – Death – Obituary News : A resident of Ketchum is currently facing serious legal consequences after being arrested for driving under the influence on the evening of April 17. The incident took place during a routine traffic stop on state Highway 75 near the River Run Base Camp gas station and store. Blaine County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Ted Carsley noticed a blue Jeep Cherokee in the southbound lane, which was a clear violation of Idaho Code.

Deputy Carsley described the driver of the Jeep as appearing “confused” and slow to respond. The driver allegedly moved the vehicle onto the shoulder of the highway, prompting Carsley to approach and investigate further. The driver was identified as Sandro A. Mirival-Pinedo, aged 35.

Upon opening the driver door of the Jeep, Deputy Carsley immediately detected the smell of alcohol emanating from the vehicle. Mirival-Pinedo exhibited signs of intoxication, including slurred speech. Despite being asked why he had stopped in the roadway, Mirival-Pinedo appeared disorientated and asked, “What’s the problem, sir?”

Mirival-Pinedo then allegedly continued to drive the vehicle on the shoulder of the highway, eventually stopping and admitting to consuming two beers just 10 minutes prior. He refused to participate in field sobriety tests but did provide a breath sample, which revealed a blood-alcohol content of 0.223 – well over the legal limit of 0.08.

It was revealed that Mirival-Pinedo had a previous conviction for excessive DUI in May 2022, leading to the current charge being upgraded to a felony. He appeared in 5th District Court for his initial arraignment on April 17 and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Judge Brendan Ash on June 4. Legal representation is being provided by attorney Brian James Williams.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the serious legal consequences that can follow such actions. It is imperative for all individuals to prioritize safety and responsibility when operating a vehicle on public roads..
