Thrissur: In a heart-stopping incident in Manakkodi, Thrissur, a five-year-old boy named Ryan had a miraculous escape after he slipped into a flooded drainage and drifted approximately 10 meters under concrete slabs. The incident, which unfolded around 2 pm on Kizhakkumpuram Road, left onlookers in awe.
Ryan, the son of Ponmani Raju and Roji, was walking with his mother along the road when a vehicle approached from the opposite direction. To make way for the vehicle, both Ryan and his mother stepped onto the concrete slab covering the stormwater drainage. However, tragedy struck when Ryan lost his balance and fell into an open portion of the drain, which was about one meter deep.
Witnessing the frightening scene, Menoth Parambil Subash, an autorickshaw driver, sprang into action. With quick thinking and bravery, Subash jumped into the drain, anticipating the boy’s path under the concrete slabs. As Ryan drifted towards him, Subash managed to lift him out of the water, preventing a potential disaster. Despite the ordeal, Ryan escaped with minor discomfort from drinking the drain water and was discharged home with his relieved parents after receiving initial medical care.
