Accident – Death – Obituary News : British and US forces have carried out another joint operation in Yemen, targeting Houthi rebels in response to recent attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. This marks the fifth combined operation between the two nations since January.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) confirmed the strikes against the Iran-backed group on Thursday, with the Prime Minister stating that the aim of the operation was to degrade the military capabilities of the Houthis and prevent further attacks on international shipping. The strikes were conducted as a defensive measure in the face of the ongoing threat posed by the Houthis.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak emphasized the need to protect British interests abroad and at home, highlighting the 197 attacks carried out by the Houthis since November. He stressed the success of previous strikes in degrading the Houthi military capabilities, targeting supply lines, command and control centers, and missile launch sites.

Intelligence provided by the MoD identified two locations near Hudaydah as being involved in the attacks, with buildings suspected to house drone ground control facilities and storage for long-range drones. Additionally, surface-to-air weapons used to impede coalition operations in safeguarding shipping were believed to be present at the sites.

Further south on the Yemeni coast, a set of Houthi facilities at Ghulayfiqah were identified as being involved in the command and control of the group’s anti-shipping campaign. RAF Typhoon FGR4s conducted strikes on the target buildings at these locations using Paveway IV guided bombs.

Despite the precision of the strikes, the MoD emphasized that the utmost care was taken to minimize any risk to civilians or non-military infrastructure. However, the Houthis reported that two people were killed and 10 others injured in one of the strikes.

This latest operation is part of a series of joint efforts by the US and British militaries to combat the increased attacks on shipping by the Houthis in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The rebel group has escalated its attacks in recent months, demanding an end to the war in Gaza, which has resulted in significant casualties.

The ongoing conflict between the Houthis and international forces has disrupted shipping routes in the region, prompting swift responses to ensure the safety of international shipping and prevent further escalation of the situation..
