Authorities in Hudson County have launched an investigation into a hit-and-run collision that resulted in critical injuries to a pedestrian in Kearny. The incident took place on Thursday, May 30, and involves the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Kearny Police Department.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez revealed that the Kearny Police Department received a report of a pedestrian being struck at the intersection of Kearny Avenue and Columbia Avenue around 7 a.m. Responding officers found a 76-year-old male victim, a Kearny resident, with severe injuries at the scene.

The vehicle responsible for the collision fled the scene, leaving the victim in need of urgent medical attention. The victim was swiftly transported by Emergency Medical Services to University Hospital in Newark, where he is currently in critical condition. In the initial stages of the investigation, authorities managed to locate the vehicle suspected of being involved in the hit-and-run.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Kearny Police Department are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the driver responsible for the incident.
