The Arapahoe County coroner has officially named the man who was fatally shot by Aurora police at an apartment complex near Expo Park. The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Kilyn Lewis.

According to reports, Lewis was a suspect in an attempted homicide case in Denver. The Aurora police SWAT team had located him at the apartment complex on South Ironton Street on May 23. It was during this encounter that the fatal shooting took place.

Following the shooting, Lewis was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Sadly, he succumbed to a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead on Saturday. The Arapahoe County coroner has ruled his death as a homicide. However, it has not been confirmed whether Lewis was armed at the time of the incident.

The officer responsible for the shooting has been identified as Officer Michael Dieck, a veteran of the Aurora Police Department with 12 years of service. Officer Dieck has been placed on paid administrative leave while investigations are carried out by the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s office to determine if any criminal charges are warranted. Additionally, the Aurora Police Department is conducting an internal review to ascertain if Officer Dieck violated any departmental policies or procedures.
