A man known as Kabiru Musa, also referred to as Dawa, has been apprehended by the police for his involvement in the 2011 post-election violence that resulted in the tragic deaths of six corps members and a policewoman in Giade Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

It was a dark period in 2011 when supporters of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) resorted to violence following the presidential election results, leading to the brutal killings of at least 50 individuals, including serving corps members. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, announced the significant breakthrough in the case on Thursday, May 30, 2024, as he presented the suspect and other individuals arrested for various criminal activities.

CP Auwal Musa Muhammad confirmed that Kabiru Musa, also known as Dawa, was recently taken into custody for the heinous murder of a 17-year-old girl named Aisha Mohammad in Giade Local Government Area. The discovery of Aisha Mohammad’s decomposed body in a well in the Unguwar Tudun Maje area of Giade town on April 26, 2024, prompted the investigation that led to the arrest of the suspect.

According to the Commissioner of Police, the events of April 18, 2011, saw Kabiru Musa and his gang storm the Giade Divisional Police Headquarters armed with dangerous weapons, including knives, cutlasses, sticks, and petrol. This violent act resulted in the tragic death of F/No. 020827 W/PC. Rifkatu Bappa, who was on duty at the charge room and sustained fatal injuries.

The statement released by the police detailed how Kabiru Musa, also known as Dawa, and his accomplices set fire to a motor vehicle belonging to Mr. Peter Okoye and attacked his wife, Bridget Peter Okoye, causing further harm. The violence escalated as the gang pursued and gruesomely murdered six corps members who sought refuge at the police station during the chaos.

The victims, namely Nkwazema Anslem, Adewumi Seun Paul, Okpokiri Obinna, Teidi Olawale Tosin, Adewei Elliot, and Ukeoma Ikechukwu Chibuzor, were mercilessly killed by the suspects in a horrific manner. The incident led to a breakdown of law and order as the syndicate looted shops and caused chaos in the community.

After evading capture for over a decade, Kabiru Musa, also known as Dawa, has finally been arrested, and the investigation into his crimes is ongoing. Once the investigation is concluded, he will be brought before the court to face justice based on the evidence gathered.

Furthermore, Kabiru Musa is also facing charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide in connection with the murder of Aisha Mohammad, whose body was discovered in a well in Giade town on April 26, 2024. Two other individuals, Anas Adamu and Kabiru Musa, have been implicated and arrested in relation to this crime.

The arrest of Kabiru Musa, the mastermind behind the 2011 post-election violence in Bauchi State, marks a significant milestone in the quest for justice for the victims and their families. The police are committed to ensuring that all those responsible for these heinous crimes are held accountable for their actions.
