The incident occurred early Sunday morning when authorities received reports of a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on the northbound lanes of the interstate. The situation quickly turned deadly as a head-on collision took place.

In the aftermath of the crash, a Good Samaritan, 64-year-old Joel Montalvo, emerged from his vehicle to offer assistance.
