PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) has reported that one individual has been apprehended following a tragic shooting incident in Hurt on Thursday night.

At approximately 8:15 p.m. on May 30, deputies were summoned to the 1600 block of Shula Drive in response to a shooting. Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers discovered a man, identified as 28-year-old Jimmy Dee Hardwick, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Efforts were made to administer aid to Hardwick, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the suspect had fled the area prior to the deputies’ arrival. However, following a thorough search of the vicinity surrounding the crime scene, the individual was apprehended.

The body of the deceased, Jimmy Dee Hardwick, will be transferred to the Medical Examiner’s Office for the Western District of Virginia for a determination of the cause of death.

Collaboration between investigators and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office is ongoing, with criminal charges expected to be filed in connection with the incident.
