US Woman Kills Boyfriend Believing He Inherited £30 Million But Police Confirm It Was a Scam

The woman could face a lifetime behind bars without the possibility of parole.

A woman in the United States has been found guilty of fatally poisoning her boyfriend under the false belief that he had inherited a fortune of £30 million. However, it has since been revealed that the inheritance was nothing but a cruel hoax. Ina Thea Kenoyer, the woman behind the crime, was arrested in October last year and charged with class AA felony murder, the most severe murder charge in North Dakota. During the investigation, authorities discovered a bottle of Windex filled with what appeared to be antifreeze in the couple’s living room. Kenoyer recently pleaded guilty to the murder of her long-term partner and now faces the possibility of spending the rest of her life in prison without the chance of parole, as reported by People.

Law enforcement officials initially suspected that Kenoyer had financial motives for killing her 51-year-old boyfriend, Steven Edward Riley Jr. However, further investigations have revealed that the alleged inheritance was nothing more than a fraudulent scheme.

In the arrest affidavit, authorities disclosed that Riley had intended to leave Kenoyer, his girlfriend of approximately ten years. In September, as he was on his way to the airport with friends to meet a lawyer regarding his supposed windfall, he complained of severe stomach pain. Despite appearing intoxicated, subsequent blood tests showed no presence of alcohol in his system.

At the time, Kenoyer, who claimed to have medical expertise, dismissed Riley’s symptoms as a heatstroke and insisted he would recover with rest at home. When investigators searched his residence, they found a beer bottle and a plastic mug containing a green liquid resembling the contents of the Windex bottle.

After interviewing Riley’s acquaintances, authorities learned that Kenoyer had previously discussed poisoning her partner with antifreeze. The coroner’s examination revealed toxic levels of ethylene glycol in Riley’s system, a key ingredient in antifreeze. Despite Kenoyer’s attempts to deflect blame by suggesting other causes for Riley’s symptoms, she eventually confessed to spiking his sweet tea with antifreeze before his meeting with the lawyer.

Kenoyer had declared herself to be Riley’s common-law wife and had planned to share his purported inheritance with his son. However, her claims were dismissed by state officials, causing her distress. She is now set to be sentenced on August 14 and may undergo a psychological evaluation prior to her sentencing.

As the case unfolds, the tragic consequences of greed and deception have left a lasting impact on all those involved.
