Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A man in Richmond ended up bloodied and bruised after a violent Memorial Day attack involving a 2×4, leaving him seriously injured and in need of medical attention.

The incident, which took place on North 18th Street, stemmed from a dispute among neighbors that escalated into a physical altercation. Richmond police responded to the scene around 9:40 p.m. on Monday and found the victim with multiple head wounds, bleeding profusely.

Following a blood trail in the alley, officers located the suspect, identified as Wayne Delaney Jr., who was wearing a blue shirt with a noticeable red stain that resembled blood on his sleeve. Delaney was arrested and taken into custody for questioning.

During his interview with the police, Delaney claimed that a friend of his was involved in a confrontation with the victim, which led to a heated argument over parking. The altercation turned physical, resulting in the victim sustaining injuries from the 2×4 attack.

Despite the evidence against him, Delaney denied any knowledge of the blood on his shirt or why the victim identified him as the attacker. While being processed at the jail, he made derogatory remarks about the victim to another inmate, further incriminating himself in the assault.

The victim recounted the events leading up to the attack, stating that he had confronted individuals associated with Delaney for littering on his property. This confrontation escalated when Delaney and two others joined in, physically assaulting the victim with the 2×4 before fleeing the scene.

During the assault, the victim was subjected to racial slurs and told that he had no right to be in the area, adding a troubling racial element to the attack. The victim’s son called the police for help, and the victim was treated for lacerations and bruising sustained during the attack.

Delaney now faces charges of battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony, and battery resulting in bodily injury, a misdemeanor. His initial court hearing is scheduled for June 5, where he will have to answer for his role in the violent Memorial Day incident.
