Accident – Death – Obituary News :

NEW YORK (NewsNation) — A 1-year-old poodle named Rocket is on the path to a full recovery after enduring severe injuries and abuse at the hands of his owner, as reported by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Brave NYPD officer Kelsey Garcia shared with NewsNation host Ashleigh Banfield her initial disbelief that Rocket would survive the ordeal. She expressed her relief, stating, “From the moment we arrived and I saw his condition, I knew it was touch and go. It was captured on bodycam when the lieutenant asked if he was going to make it. My immediate response was no. But to see him now on the road to recovery and hopefully finding a loving home, it makes it all worthwhile.”

NYPD Officers Detail Dramatic Rescue Mission

Officers Vincent Caprino and Joseph O’Shea also appeared on “Banfield” to recount their rescue mission. Caprino shared, “We all knew we had to act swiftly. We were all hoping it wasn’t as bad as it appeared. It was truly heartbreaking to witness the dog in such a dire state.”

On May 16, the NYPD responded to a distressing call about a woman abusing a puppy, as reported by NewsNation’s New York affiliate WPIX. Rocket displayed signs of a traumatic brain injury, went into shock, and experienced unstable heart and blood pressure levels when examined by veterinarians, according to the ASPCA.

Severe Injuries Prompt Transfer to Specialist Veterinary Centre

Rocket’s injuries were so severe that he was transferred to the Animal Medical Center, a specialist veterinary partner of the ASPCA.

The poodle’s owner, identified as 25-year-old Cleopatra Morgan, is facing charges of aggravated cruelty to an animal, criminal possession of a weapon, and torture injury to an animal, according to arrest records. Morgan allegedly threw the dog over a ledge and later admitted to police that she had “snapped.”

Garcia shared her thoughts on potentially adopting Rocket herself, saying, “He’s quite popular at the moment. Many people are eager to meet him. I’m planning to visit him soon, and I’m seriously considering bringing him into my home. However, there’s a long waiting list of potential adopters.”

Stay tuned for further updates on Rocket’s recovery and potential adoption.
