Accident – Death – Obituary News : The body of 34-year-old Pierre Pearson, originally from Georgia, was discovered by two fishermen in the Columbia River, according to authorities in Washington. The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a recent news release that the remains found near Martin’s Bar in Woodland in June 2022 have been positively identified as belonging to Pearson.
Before his tragic death, Pearson was believed to have been living without a permanent residence in Portland, Oregon. He had last been in contact with his family in April 2021, more than a year before his body was found in the river.
The circumstances surrounding Pearson’s death remain unclear at this time. The Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office, which conducted an examination of the remains, stated that there were no signs of trauma. However, due to the advanced state of decomposition, facial identification and fingerprint collection were not possible. Additionally, no form of identification was found with the body.
In an effort to identify the deceased, detectives began collaborating with Othram, a private laboratory in Texas, in December 2022. Advanced forensic DNA testing was utilized in this process. Subsequently, Pearson’s dental records were obtained after contacting his stepmother and father. A forensic odontologist was then able to confirm that the remains belonged to Pearson.
Chief Criminal Deputy Troy Brightbill of the CCSO mentioned that there is no evidence to suggest that Pearson’s death was the result of foul play. As a result, the investigation into his death is now considered closed. The Coroner’s Office will work with Pearson’s family to arrange for the transfer of his remains.
