A devastating incident occurred on Thursday morning in Menon, resulting in the untimely death of a 45-year-old woman following a tragic traffic collision. The St. Joseph County Sheriff Department was called to the scene of the two-vehicle crash on Silver Street, located north of Pinhook Road in Mendon Township, shortly after 8 a.m.
Initial reports suggest that a 24-year-old man from Reading was travelling northbound on Silver Street when his vehicle collided head-on with the victim’s car. The victim, identified as Melissa Hallack by the sheriff department, tragically lost her life at the scene of the accident.
The male driver involved in the collision was rushed to Bronson Hospital to receive treatment for the injuries he sustained during the crash. Authorities suspect that alcohol may have played a role in the incident, and as such, the driver’s identity is being kept confidential until the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
In response to the emergency, the sheriff department received assistance from the Mendon Fire Department, Fabius Park Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance, and the Michigan State Police as they worked to manage the situation and provide aid to those involved.
