BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A recent incident at the Gateway International Bridge in Brownsville has led to the arrest of a man for the theft of a motor vehicle, as reported by the Brownsville police.
In the early hours of Monday morning, Brownsville Police Patrol Officers received a call regarding a theft on the 2400 block of E. Price Rd. The stolen vehicle was identified as a white 2019 Chevrolet Blazer.
It was determined that the culprit had forcibly entered the vehicle by breaking a window and had driven off without the owner’s consent, according to the police report.
The suspect, identified as Matthew Sanchez Caballero, aged 18, managed to take the stolen vehicle across the border into Mexico, where he managed to evade Mexican authorities temporarily. However, he was ultimately apprehended and taken into custody by Mexican law enforcement.
Following an investigation by the Brownsville Police Auto Theft Unit, an arrest warrant was issued for Caballero. The suspect was subsequently apprehended at the bridge as he attempted to re-enter Brownsville.
Matthew Sanchez Caballero appeared in court and was granted a $20,000 bond as part of the legal proceedings.
