According to Montgomery police Maj. Saba Coleman, Surls was captured by the Montgomery police SWAT team and the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force. He is now in custody at the Montgomery County jail without bond.

The incident occurred in the 600 block of Iris Lane, where Humphrey tragically lost her life. The second woman involved in the shooting sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is currently recovering.
