A resident of Murphysboro, Illinois, has recently entered a guilty plea to a series of charges, including aggravated robbery and burglary. The individual in question, 22-year-old Justin Macak, has been sentenced to a total of 13 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for his crimes.
The incident that led to Macak’s arrest took place on March 16, when the Murphysboro Police Department responded to a report of a burglary of a motor vehicle at 2044 Rainbow Drive. According to the report, a witness saw two individuals, one of whom was wearing an orange and brown hoodie and carrying a backpack, rummaging through a 2014 Dodge vehicle. The owner of the vehicle later confirmed that several items, including his wallet and debit card, were missing.
Following the investigation, Macak was apprehended by the authorities as he was found walking north on foot. A search of his person and belongings led to the discovery of the stolen wallet and debit card inside his backpack. It was later revealed that Macak was also linked to a previous robbery that occurred on February 29.
On the date in question, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a robbery involving a Dominos delivery driver at 334 Flanigan Road in Murphysboro. The victim reported that two armed individuals, one of whom was identified as Macak wielding a construction level, approached her and stole the food and delivery bag.
Further evidence against Macak was uncovered when deputies seized his phone and found incriminating text messages related to the robbery. Several witnesses also identified him as one of the perpetrators involved in the incident.
In light of these findings, Macak pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery, burglary, and multiple misdemeanor offenses, resulting in a lengthy prison sentence. Jackson County State’s attorney, Joseph A. Cervantez, expressed satisfaction with the resolution of the case and commended the efforts of law enforcement in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
