A devastating incident unfolded on Tuesday in southern Texas, as a family of five lost their lives in a horrific collision. The tragedy occurred when a FedEx box truck crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with their vehicle, resulting in fatal consequences.
The Texas Department of Public Safety revealed that the fatal crash took place around 8 p.m. CDT on U.S. 57, approximately nine miles from Eagle Pass. Reports from KABB-TV detailed the sequence of events.
According to WOAI-TV, a gray 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV was travelling westbound on the highway when the box truck, travelling eastbound, veered out of its lane and collided head-on with the SUV.
The victims, all residents of Eagle Pass, were identified by KENS-TV as Jose Martinez (71), Noemi Jimenez Martinez (61), Joanna Martinez (34), Samantha Martinez (25), and a 10-year-old girl whose name has not been disclosed. Tragically, the young girl passed away while being transported to a nearby medical facility.
The driver of the box truck sustained injuries and was taken to Fort Duncan Medical Center for treatment, as reported by KABB. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
