Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A 43-year-old woman, Ms Hadijah Nabutono, has recently made headlines after expelling her three teenage children from their late father’s house due to a dispute over her new partner.

The controversy came to light during a public meeting in Kayunga District, where the children, aged between 10 and 13, petitioned the District Probation Officer, Mr Collins Kafeero, accusing their mother of forcing them out of their home to make room for her new lover in February.

Ms Nabutono defended her actions by claiming that her children were unruly and refused to accept her new partner as a father figure. She even went as far as accusing them of attempting to harm her.

However, the children and some residents of Nawankonge Village in Kayonza Sub-county denied these allegations, stating that the trio had been well-behaved and were unfairly treated by their mother.

Family Dynamics

The situation escalated earlier in the year when Ms Nabutono sent her children to live with their grandparents in Kumi District, with the intention of enrolling them in school. However, the children never received an education as they were instead put to work in the fields.

After enduring mistreatment and neglect, the children decided to trek back to Kayunga, where they sought help from the district probation office. This action led to a public confrontation between Ms Nabutono, her new partner, and concerned community members.

It was revealed that the new partner, Ronald Maguma, had moved into the late husband’s house shortly after his passing and had been living with Ms Nabutono and her children. The children expressed discomfort with this arrangement and refused to acknowledge Mr Maguma as their stepfather.

Property Dispute

Central to the conflict is the widow’s plan to sell a 15-acre land left behind by her late husband, valued at Shs60m. While Ms Nabutono admitted to considering the sale due to pressure from her late husband’s relatives, she denied that Mr Maguma was involved in the decision.

The local community, led by the Nawankonge Village chairperson, Ms Annet Awinjo, intervened to prevent the sale of the land and criticised Ms Nabutono for prioritising her new relationship over her children’s well-being.

Despite Ms Nabutono’s attempts to reconcile with her children, they were taken into the custody of a son-in-law, Mr Yeko Kisuze, who expressed concern for their welfare and education.

Community Response

Neighbours, social workers, and village leaders have condemned Ms Nabutono’s actions, highlighting the importance of parental responsibility and the well-being of the children involved. The situation has sparked a debate on family values and the impact of relationships on familial dynamics.

As the story unfolds, the focus remains on the welfare of the children and the resolution of the conflict between Ms Nabutono, her new partner, and her estranged children.
